As we continue to reach out to so many new special needs friends and families it is time to update and celebrate! In 2017 we have already had major 3 activities and events that have touched the lives of nearly 200 special friends. It has been busy and fun! We have hosted events at the Little D Ranch, Camp Big Sky and in Dodgeville Wisconsin.

The second half of the year is filled with camping events, multiple one day outdoor events and several hunts across the Midwest. We continue to partner with other non-profits such as Angels Arms, Heart of Illinois Whitetails, People with Unlimited Potential (PUP) and Physically Challenged Bowhunters of America (PCBA). We encourage everyone to experience the great outdoors and all the rewards it can bring to your life.

The activities at these events include fishing, boating, archery targets, campfires, outdoors yard games, great food and fun! We encourage our participants to try new things as the parents often look on with big smiles and warm hearts. We strive to grow and encourage all of our friends at the events to explore new activities and stretch their talents! There are many inspiring moments at each event.

We are so grateful to our supporters that continue to give of their time, products and financial support. We look forward to a great fall season and meeting many new friends!

Many Blessings On Your Journeys,
Beverly Taylor, President

Great day at Camp Big Sky despite the crazy Central Illinois weather! Fishing, boating, hay rack rides and outdoor games were enjoyed by all in attendance. Lots of fun at the day long at the event. Breakfast and lunch were served by the Big Hearts Outdoors volunteers so the families of our special needs friends could come and enjoy a hassle free day in the Great Outdoors! A wonderful day to try new things and a fun time on the lake for our special friends. We love it when family members join along so brothers and sisters can have some fun too! Great food and sunshine make for many happy smiles.

The last picture of the little guy in the yellow shirt is our own Drake Taylor in his younger days. Fishing was one of his favorite activities all summer long. He was very proud of his first catch of the season!

A FUN DAY of fishing, boating, great food and outdoor games was shared with PUP (People with Unlimited Potential) at Camp Big Sky this summer. Special needs children and their families enjoyed a great outdoor experience with our gracious host at Camp Big Sky in Farmington, IL. Boating around the lake in a custom pontoon boat fitted for wheelchairs was available so everyone could enjoy the water. Later in the afternoon a hay rack ride toured our guests around the camp grounds.

Continental breakfast, full lunch buffet, snacks and drinks were served to everyone throughout the day and hosted by Big Hearts outdoors. Crafts and games were enjoyed by the guests as they waited turns for the boats rides. Lots of laughs and family fun was had by all in attendance!

<![CDATA[CIRT Riding Therapy Grants Donated]]>Thu, 17 Apr 2014 16:06:53 GMThttp://bigheartsoutdoors.org/activities/cirt-riding-therapy-grants-donated
Big Hearts Outdoors is proud to donate two riding grants for special needs children to experience therapy horseback riding at the Central Illinois Riding Therapy Arena. CIRT is recognized by the Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship International (PATH Intl) as a “premier center” – the highest possible level of accreditation. The benefit of the therapy includes increased balance, strength and flexibility. The self-confidence and communication skills learned as the rider experiences this unique therapy is fun and exciting. The families volunteer to support the horse shows and competitions that are promoted with the organization as they encourage their special needs family member to excel and compete in new challenges. Pictures will be added soon of the riders we are supporting. We wish the horseback riders and their families a great experience and look forward to sharing their stories with you.

BIG HEART OUTDOORS is a proud supporter of the Heart of Illinois Chapter of Whitetails Unlimited. This is the group that started all the hunting adventures for our son Drake Taylor. In 2010 Drake was offered a deer hunt by the organization which unleashed a passion in Drake that changed his life. That hunting experience was the inspiration behind the wildlife jewelry for the company Little D Designs. The Heart of Illinois Whitetail gentlemen taught Drake to shoot, retrofitted equipment and hosted a weekend in Camden Illinois that touch and changed the lives of all thought in attendance. We will be forever grateful to the families and friends that embraced us for an unforgettable weekend!

Join them this year at their May 17, 2014 Banquet held in Pekin, IL.

<![CDATA[PCBA Deer & Turkey Hunt]]>Wed, 16 Apr 2014 16:41:42 GMThttp://bigheartsoutdoors.org/activities/pcba-deer-turkey-hunt
Big Hearts Outdoors was excited to support Cauy at the Physically Challenged Bowhunters of America Deer & Turkey Hunt in Cambridge, OH in October 2013. Cauy had the opportunity to share a weekend with other physically challenged youth and adult hunters at Deerassic Park. Local residents mentor and share their hunting ground with the participants that come together and share the thrill and excitement of a fall deer and turkey hunt. Cauy had the opportunity to zero in his crossbow on some large 3-D archery targets. He took great aim at a large buffalo target and gives a big thumbs up on a well place shot! Cauy was interviewed by a local TV station while at the hunt which made him a local celebrity for the weekend. Although Cauy did not harvest a deer that weekend he met many new friends and had a great time.

The PCBA is an organization that connects physically challenged bowhunters to various hunts across the country. Big Hearts Outdoors underwrites the travel expenses for a youth hunter to attend the event. The young hunter has the opportunity to share time with other sportsmen and women that share a passion for the outdoors. New skills, ideas and lots of laughs are shared as everyone supports and encourages each other.

It is truly a weekend of "Do Your Best, Have Fun, Hang Around Good People!"

<![CDATA[Family Adventure Weekend with Angel's Arms]]>Tue, 15 Oct 2013 13:57:06 GMThttp://bigheartsoutdoors.org/activities/family-adventure-weekend-with-angels-armsBig Hearts Outdoors partnered with Angel's Arms of Northminster Presbyterian Church to share a special weekend at Timber Pointe Outdoor Center in Hudson, IL. Twelve special needs children and their families had fun boating, fishing, horse back riding and some good campfire singing. All the children attending the event received a new fishing pole and each family was given a tackle box full of fishing treasures and a list of places to fish in Central Illinois. Big Hearts Outdoors encouraged the families to continue with the fishing fun as a family after the special weekend. It was a great weekend of smiles, fellowship and outdoor fun.
<![CDATA[Spring Turkey Hunt with Brad]]>Tue, 24 Sep 2013 03:00:40 GMThttp://bigheartsoutdoors.org/activities/spring-turkey-hunt-with-bradA Big Hearts Outdoors thank you to Art & Michelle Helin of Art Helin Outdoors of Dodgeville, WI for hosting Brad and his family for a WI spring turkey hunt and some fishing at their cabin. Brad harvested an amazing turkey on the first day of his hunt. This was Brad's first turkey hunt and you can see from his smiles he was very excited. The family then enjoyed some of the local fishing and some homemade cooking at the Helin family home. We are truly grateful for our partners that share their passion of the great outdoors with fellow young men and women. What a wonderful way to help new friends experience a great new adventure!
<![CDATA[3 Cousins 4 A Cause]]>Sat, 21 Sep 2013 05:23:38 GMThttp://bigheartsoutdoors.org/activities/3-cousins-4-a-cause
So proud of Drake Taylor's three cousins. Delaney, Savannah and Caitlin (picture on the left) started a new business adventure called "3 Cousins for A Cause". With a little help from their aunts and big encouragement from their moms their new enterprise is off and running. Little D Designs (Drake's original jewelry business) donated beads to help start the adventure. Part of the proceeds were donated to Big Hearts Outdoors. We are so grateful for the $500 check presented at the Big Hearts Outdoors Summer Festival. Great work Ladies!! We are very proud of you all!

We are so grateful for all those who donated items, volunteered, attended and supported our Big Hearts Outdoors Summer Festival event on June 29, 2013. The food was great, the games were fun and everyone seemed to be having a great time. The response to the silent and live auction was amazing. Thank you for making this event a great success!
